| There are hundreds of species of fish available in the warm Belizean waters but there are a few that are particularly fun for the angler who loves to be challenged. For example, you can fly-fish for Permit (a favorite among many anglers) with the average fish in the 10-pound range or you can feel the adrenaline rush of landing that 30-pound trophy fish! You'll primarily catch Permit on the flats off the coast of southern Belize and mangrove lagoons such as the one at Punta Ycacos. |

If you're not an experienced fly fisherman, Permit may be a hard catch. Only experienced anglers have the skill to land this baby. One skill you'll definitely need is a reasonably accurate 40-foot cast. Saltwater fishing is a little tricky if you're new to it. It's even challenging if you're a seasoned angler.

The guides that will show you around the waters of Belize are a rough and tumble lot, mainly trained by their fathers that started them fishing at a very early age. These guides are a hard working bunch that know where the fish are. They are also experts in catching these fish, which may differ from what you are accustomed to. But if you follow their guidance, you will most likely catch that elusive bone, permit or tarpon if any are to be caught that day. |
One thing to keep in mind, it is highly recommended that you catch and release only. If you desire to keep a snook for eating, that is acceptable, but please let the rest go. We want to ensure that the fishing stays good for everyone for many generations to come!
